Thursday 6th April

Phoenix woke up at 4:30am this morning, and then slept for another hour in our bed, but Lizl and I didn’t really.  I might need an arvo nap.  Soon after getting up we received a notification – our flights had been cancelled.  Rob and Lizl sprang to action, and figured out that we could stay here an extra day and catch a flight home on Virgin Airlines on Saturday.  I had been looking forward to getting home to be honest, but there are worse places to be stuck.  Cooler ones too.

Brekkie was pretty good – muesli, yoghurt, fruit, croissants, and a personalised cooked breakfast too (which I declined).  I had a quick dip in the pool along with Lizl and Phoenix, then Lizl and Lisa were off to a full body massage.  It sounded like it was very good.  The rest of the afternoon was mostly relaxed – both Lizl and I managed a nap, but it wasn’t really enough – I didn’t manage to do much other that mentally prepare for the afternoon sun.  I found a decent hiding spot next to the kitchen, not sure what the other poor souls did.

Had an afternoon swim with the little guy who seems to be getting more and more used to the water.  Often find him crawling up to the pool and splashing his hand around.  Sometimes he’ll try and get in, sometimes not.  Gotta be on alert with no pool fences, but in reality we have to be alert regardless – he doesn’t need a pool to get himself in trouble.  Around his dinner time he started inexplicably scream crying.  We couldn't figure out what was wrong - neither Lizl nor I could calm him.  We checked him over and couldn't see any injuries or bites, and finally after maybe 30 minutes he settled down and seemed normal again.  The only thing we could come up with was that he twisted a finger or toe somehow (there are small gaps in the wooden planks where he crawls), but it all seemed a bit strange.

Rory and Elle spent the whole day preparing for a disco party in their room.  Finally at 6:30pm we went up for the party.  The lights were turned off and they had a toy which had different coloured LEDs to give the disco vibe.  I put on some music and we had a dance.  They had made party hats for everyone (just a piece of triangle shaped paper coloured in that we had to hold on our heads), although I was given Phoenix’s who was already in bed.  They had made food (cupcakes) and drinks too – tiny bits of paper with pictures drawn on.  It was actually quite well prepared, although they sometimes referred to the massage shop they also had up there, which made me think that the massage shop was actually just a front for an illegal rave den.  They originally said the party would last 6 minutes, but when we tried to leave they said “no, it goes for 2 hours”.  We politely excused ourselves.

Dinner was ceviche for entrée, with a fish main (substitutes on both for Lisa).  Very good again – the chef is top notch here.

Things of note:

  • Hopefully we don’t run out of nappies...
  • Lizl had the cooked breakfast and regretted it.
  • Big difference between here and Nakatumble – Romina was constantly getting feedback and asking questions, here they kinda just do whatever and you get what you get.  They both have their pros and cons.
  • Bigger clouds on the horizon this evening, so no sunset :(
