Sunday 2nd April

This morning I woke up with a sense of dread – I had a full day ahead of me with bad sunburn and kids who probably wanted cuddles on a sunny tropical island where all there was to do cool down was swim in a sunny pool.  I got up at about 7am, and went to the main area to apply my first lot of aloe.  I was now using Rob and Lisa’s aloe as I had used up all of ours the night before.  Better slow down on this stuff.  Can you OD on aloe? Let’s find out.

On this day that I relegated myself inside there was no cell reception (and therefore internet), and it’s now mid-arvo as I write this and there is still nothing.  I guess a tower is down or something, will we see a fix before we leave?  Who can say.  Consequences of this are: I cannot upload diaries, I have no idea what the price of bitcoin is, and we don’t know if Rob was able to kiss and make up with Stephen.  
We had lunch at around 12:30pm, and watched as the sky got darker and darker, until it started raining, and then pouring.  Rob, Lizl, and I were in the ocean hut (Lis had left to do something with Finn), and we were trapped.  Rob left when it lightened up a bit, and Lizl and I made a dash 10 minutes later.  It continued to rain for a couple of hours pretty hard, with big thunder and some lightning too.  An hour after it stopped the sky was clear blue with clouds only on the horizon.  I guess we finally got the classic tropical thunderstorm.

During the storm Elle and Rory were in Romina’s bedroom watching TV apparently?  Seems these kids have an all-access pass to this place.

Otherwise today I spent mostly on candy crush, catching up with diaries, and avoiding the sun like the plague.  In the late arvo I hopped in the pool with the little guy as the sun wasn’t there anymore.  Rory and Elle came in and Lisa and Lizl too.  At dinner time the kids all went down to their usual spot (the ocean hut), and had a couple of pina coladas in the pool.  Both Elle and Rory visited us during this time, both sad, both different reasons.  Rory had a headache and really just needs to drink more water.  She was “too shy” to do her fact of the day today, I think because she didn’t spend enough time in the kitchen immediately prior.  Could also be because she wasn’t feeling 100%. 


Things of note:

  • Took Phoenix for his rock pool bath again.  At dinner time I suggested Rory could come back in the pool if she was quick, but after the dehydration episode things took longer, so I suggested she could join Phoenix and me for a rock pool bath.  Sadly she declined, so it was just the boys.
  • Now night time, still no reception.  Hope the rest of the world isn’t going through something crazy, we’d have no idea.
  • Sunburn is starting to not hurt constantly which is a good sign.  Hoping tomorrow will be good again.
  • After her bath, Rory was feeling better and got into her pjs.  She then put on some bead bangle and a necklace and put a bow in her hair so she could look nice for her kitchen visit.  I have a feeling that leaving the kitchen/Romina is going to be the hardest part about leaving this place for her.

New day, still no reception.   Also means my photos aren’t getting backed up, which makes my phone more and more precious by the moment.   Rory still feeling sick this morning, Lizl sat with her in her bed before I got up and she fell asleep again.   Poor thing didn’t even want to go in the pool with everyone, says her tummy is sore too.   Hope it’s just dehydration and not something else.   I have a sore on my shin that’s getting bigger too, it doesn’t hurt (unless you touch it) or even itch, but looks worrying.   I put some antiseptic ointment on, hopefully that’s all that’s required.   Sunburn maybe 20% better – still annoying but not hurting constantly anymore at least, except on my lips.   Rash on my shin seems less itchy, but other spots have popped up. Tuesday 28th March

I didn’t sleep well last night.   The pillows were huge, but filled with goose down or something and compressed to about 2cm.   Bugs flew into my face and hair, and at about 445am the rooster started his business.   Managed to get an extra hour from 7-8am, but not ideal.   For Rory, this was the day of the pool.   I think she spent more hours in the water than out, and the resulting sunburn on face and legs showed.   For the rest of us it was a chill day, Rob and I went for a walk along the shoreline, and hopped in this incredible rock pool right against the ocean.   We were in and out the pool as well, disappointingly only one pina colada today though. We had lunch in a small pergola style area near the water – it was a “non-spicy” curry.   Still too spicy for me, but there were a bunch of summer rolls that I smashed.   Spilt my rum and coke on one of the dogs “Sid”.   He took it pretty well, just decided to move away.   I checke...

Friday 7th April

Last night Phoenix woke up at about 11pm, and put himself back down.   But at 12am, he decided that sleep was not required, and cry screamed for 10 minutes before I got up.   Tried to settle him, Lizl tried to offer him water (he threw it out the cot), and eventually I managed to get him to lie down quietly, but only if my hand was on his chest through the bars of the cot.   After about an hour I was allowed to go back to bed.   He was then up just after 5am, but Lizl let me sleep in this morning bless her, and I was up at about 7:30am. Breakfast was the same, this time everyone except Rob declined the cooked breakfast.   We hopped in the pool for a morning swim, and then at around 10:30am the girls (this time including Rory and Elle) went to get another massage.    Rob and I looked after the boys.   By this I mean the nanny carried Phoenix around and I avoided eye contact.   The girls came back soon after it stopped raining, having all e...
