Friday 7th April
Last night Phoenix woke up at about 11pm, and put himself back down. But at 12am, he decided that sleep was not required, and cry screamed for 10 minutes before I got up. Tried to settle him, Lizl tried to offer him water (he threw it out the cot), and eventually I managed to get him to lie down quietly, but only if my hand was on his chest through the bars of the cot. After about an hour I was allowed to go back to bed. He was then up just after 5am, but Lizl let me sleep in this morning bless her, and I was up at about 7:30am.
Breakfast was the same, this time everyone except Rob declined the cooked breakfast. We hopped in the pool for a morning swim, and then at around 10:30am the girls (this time including Rory and Elle) went to get another massage. Rob and I looked after the boys. By this I mean the nanny carried Phoenix around and I avoided eye contact. The girls came back soon after it stopped raining, having all enjoyed their massage. Rory, however, didn’t like it. She LOVED it. Lunch was served (couscous and chicken salad), and then then as Rob got into the pool, the heavens opened and it poured with rain for about 3 hours. Rob toughed it out on his own for 20 minutes and then decided enough was enough. Phoenix had come back to me at this point, and was crawling around slipping on the polished wooden floors – not enough to hurt himself, but enough to be funny.
Once the rain stopped Rob and I decided to go for a paddle in the water. We convinced Elle and Rory to come too, and pulled two kayaks in. Rory and I squeezed into a 1-person kayak, and Rob and Elle took the 2-person one. There was no wind and the water was mostly still, so it was pleasant enough. The water we were in was the ocean, but Havannah Port is protected by two islands – Moso and Lelepa, so it behaves a lot like a bay. Rory and Elle had brief attempts at paddling, but were mostly passengers. While out there we did see a turtle which was cool – we could see it’s back and it’s head coming up for air. We got pretty close but then it disappeared.
Back at the house we hopped in the pool once more while Lizl and Lisa went for a kayak, but it wasn’t long before dinner was served.
Things of note:
- Seems like there’s more mozzies on this side of the island too – I keep getting bitten. Talking about mozzies – they seem to love Finn, he has welts all over his body and the poor guy can’t stop scratching.
- Today our last full day in Vanuatu
- Dinner was tacos, it was nice, but not as nice as previous night’s dinners. Really missing gauc and tomato.
- Rory wet the bed last night, will need to do midnight wees tonight.
- Finn was very unsettled after his midday nap, couldn’t stop crying until we got him in the pool. Rob played a game with him; throwing him high up in the air and on the landing dunking him in the water a bit. He would come up, spluttering and coughing up half the pool, then shout “MOAR!”
